Instructions for Removing the Driver's Airbag

Model: Mercedes Classe M W163 - Years 1997-2005

Removing the driver's airbag, which is mounted directly on the steering wheel, is quite simple to execute as it is secured to the spokes of the steering wheel with two Torx screws. Before proceeding with the removal, disconnect the battery to avoid triggering the warning light. Then, locate the holes at the back of the steering wheel spokes and insert a Torx key size 25 to unscrew the airbag's securing screws. Move the airbag away from the steering wheel just enough to disconnect the detonator connector, taking care not to damage it.
