Installing the Shift Cable Bushing

Model: Mercedes Sl MK 5, R129 - Years 1989-2001
Part: Transmission

In the coupling area between the shift cable and the lever on the transmission, there is a plastic bushing that can wear out over time and may come loose from its seat. This will create significant play in the shift lever. You can install a new bushing without disassembling anything by using a long-nose plier and some good manual dexterity. The bushing has an opening to fit inside the shift cable. It must then be aligned with its seat and pressed in with the help of the long-nose plier.
