Replacing the Rear Shock Absorber

Model: Mercedes Classe A W168 - Years 1997-2004

Place the car on a lift to access underneath the body. Remove the two screws of the protective cover with an 8mm socket wrench and take it off. Also remove the second cover. Using a 18mm ratchet wrench, unscrew the securing bolt of the shock absorber. Position a hydraulic jack under the wheel arm to support it. Using a hammer and a screwdriver, slide out the retaining pin of the shock absorber and remove it after taking off the spring and all the support. Install the new shock absorber by securing it to the support with the bolt and tightening the nut with a 16mm wrench. Raise the arm with the jack to allow for the support to be secured. Tighten the bolts and install a new spring, securing it with the bolt that should be greased before fastening. Reassemble the remaining components.
