If you need to perform a repair on the rear bumper, it is always better to remove it and work comfortably on jack stands rather than on the vehicle; painting will also yield better results: it actually takes less time to remove the bumper than to mask the rest of the vehicle; that said, start by opening the trunk to remove the plastic trim piece known as the bumper cover; at this point, you can access the internal mounting pins of the bumper, then move on to those along the edges of the fender and finally to those underneath the bumper itself; complete the process by disconnecting the side edge.
