How do you replace the battery of the Mercedes M-Class?

In order to replace the battery of the Mercedes M-Class, you must push the front passenger seat all the way forward so that you can locate the protective panel underneath: this can be detached from its housing to locate the battery. The battery must then be released from its seat by loosening the screws that hold it in place and disconnecting the power cables: once the old battery has been removed, the new one can be inserted into its seat, then covering everything with the panel and checking that everything works.
