How to change the power steering pump on a Mini Cooper.
Model: Mini Mini
R52, R50, R53
- Years 2001-2007
A common issue with Minis, especially the Mini Cooper, is the power steering pump. Changing it is not difficult, but you need to find a way to lift the car safely. It's best not to rely too much on the jack, as it's generally not very reliable. It's better to put one or two tires underneath so that you're more secure. Once you've identified the pump, you need to remove the two connectors and unscrew the bolts that hold it in place. There are two in the back that can be a little tricky to find, and two in the front. Then you need to remove the iron tube that contains the power steering oil. Let it drain into a container, and then dispose of it at an authorized center. You can find a refurbished pump for just over 100.00 euros on major e-commerce platforms. Remember that the oil should be green for this type of pump. It costs about 20.00 euros per liter. After you've removed the pump, all you need to do is insert the new one and refill the oil from the engine compartment.

For this simple operation, you will need to lift the bonnet. Raise your vehicle on both sides and secure it on suitable stands. Remove the bolts securing the lower engine cover of your vehicle. Also, remove the cap from the radiator fluid reservoir. Now, locate the drain plug to empty the fluid inside the radiator. Prepare a container under the plug to collect the fluid without creating a mess. Once the fluid has fully drained, replace the plug on the bottom and refill the reservoir. by ScegliAuto More videos
