We feel that the 1.2 16V engine of our Opel Agila emits a squeak that almost sounds like birds chirping. It seems like a clear sign of something being wrong, but we don't know what it is. Many users assure that it is a characteristic of this engine, and that you can drive long distances without any problems, while still hearing this strange noise. In some cases, the problem has been solved by changing the service belt and consequently the water pump. Many are convinced that it is a manufacturing defect of the automatic chain tensioner of the distribution belt, so the hypothesis of an intrinsic characteristic of the engine seems to be reinforced.
