This video provides excellent advice for all Renault diesel engine owners; it addresses a common issue that can be very costly. If the car struggles to start, especially when cold, and may lack power or go into the ECU protection mode, a hasty diagnosis might simply read an error from the ECU and suggest replacing the entire fuel pump, which can cost up to £2,000 depending on the model. Before incurring this expense, in 10% of cases, it is worth checking this simple cause: the oil sump (or another nearby component) may be continuously rubbing against the wiring of the fuel pump pressure sensor due to engine vibrations; the insulation of the wires wears out, creating a short circuit, causing the ECU to receive incorrect data, limiting performance and simulating a pump failure.
