Cleaning the EGR valve on a Renault Captur is a task suitable for a DIY enthusiast, but it requires time and patience. It resolves issues like loss of power, black smoke, or the engine light coming on. Lift the front of the car and securely place it on two axle stands, disconnect the electrical connector from the mass air flow sensor, loosen the clamps, and remove the intake duct connecting the air filter to the turbo. Using a 10 mm socket, unscrew the upper support of the air duct. From underneath the car, unscrew the front of the duct and remove it completely. Use a large screwdriver to pry and disconnect the breather pipe from its clips. Now you can see the EGR valve: disconnect the electrical connectors from the valve, unscrew the three screws holding it in place, and disconnect the coolant hoses (be careful of any fluid leaks). The valve will be heavily caked: apply some WD-40 to help remove it and extract it.
