This tutorial covers the gearbox oil replacement on a Saab 9 5. Once you locate the gearbox oil sump under the vehicle, use a 24 mm spanner to undo the plug: the fluid will drain into a container. If the plug is in good condition, it can be cleaned and reused.

Replace the sealing washer and refit the plug. Clean the area around the plug with a cloth, then tighten it (without over-tightening as the thread is quite delicate).

Remove the dipstick and add the necessary amount of transmission oil (in this case, 3.9 litres). Clean the area around the upper sump opening and reinsert the dipstick.
