How to Change the Spark Plugs on the Seat Leon MK2

Model: Seat Leon - Years 2005-2013
Part: Spark plugs

To change the spark plugs on a Seat Leon MK2, the difficulty depends on the engine. On the 1.6 petrol 8-valve (codes BSE, BSF, CCSA, CMXA), the main issue is that the intake manifold covers the spark plugs of cylinders 2 and 3, making access very awkward. Some mechanics manage to work without removing it, using a 16 mm spark plug socket with a universal joint and a flat screwdriver to detach the leads. However, the safest way is to loosen or remove the manifold: unscrew the bolts (2 cross-head, 2 hex), disconnect the injector connectors for more space, and slightly lift the top. The spark plugs have an M14x1.25 thread, a 16 mm hex, and a torque of 25-30 Nm. To remove stubborn leads, there is a specific tool T10112 (available on AliExpress with code 1005006902757441 for £3.16: free delivery over £10). Alternatively, you can use a flat screwdriver to pry them off. For installation, a trick to avoid cross-threading is to slide a piece of rubber hose over the end of the spark plug, which acts as a flexible joint and detaches once hand-tightened. Before removing the spark plugs, blow away dirt from the wells with compressed air.
