Replacing the Front Wheel Bearing

Model: Skoda Octavia 1U, MK 1 - Years 1996-2004

Lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift and remove the front wheel, brake caliper, bracket, and disc. To replace the hub bearing on the vehicle without removing the hub itself, specific tools are required to extract and reinstall the bearing (otherwise, remove the hub and perform the operation with a press). Lock the hub from rotating and undo the central nut securing the driveshaft; apply the hydraulic puller to remove the driveshaft and then the pull hammer to extract the hub; then disengage the front retaining circlip of the bearing, reapply the hydraulic puller with the appropriate sleeves to pull it out and remove the rear circlip. Similarly, insert the new rear circlip, the bearing, and the front circlip. Then use the appropriate puller to remove the bearing race that remains on the hub shaft and remount the hub in its place. Finally, reassemble the driveshaft, disc, bracket, caliper, and wheel.
