This video discusses the main reasons why the Start & Stop function does not activate on a Smart 453. However, these reasons are also applicable to other vehicles. Firstly, seatbelts must be properly fastened for all occupants, and the doors must be securely closed; the boot and bonnet must also be fully closed; the air conditioning should not be on for demisting; the battery must be sufficiently charged, typically above 85% of its capacity; the temperature set inside the vehicle matters; if the air conditioning has to work hard to reach it, then Start & Stop will not activate; it also does not work when cold; the engine must be warm; excessively hot or cold external temperatures also negatively affect it.
