How to replace the front brake pads of a Smart 453.

Model: Smart Smart 453 - Years 2014-2022
Part: Brake pads

Let's see how to replace the front brake pads of a Smart 453: first, we lift the car at the front, remove the wheels, take off the safety clip that holds the caliper together, and remove the rubber cover that protects the pins: underneath we will find 7 mm Allen screws. We slide the caliper supports out and move the brake line. We free the caliper and remove the worn pads; one might be stuck in the piston, so we gently use a screwdriver to help. Before installing the new pads, we need to retract the piston into the caliper with a clamp to push the piston all the way in. If the brake fluid reservoir is very full, it may overflow, so it's a good idea to check it and, if necessary, siphon off some fluid: we insert the new pads and place them in the fixed support: the pad that goes towards the piston should properly latch onto it. We reassemble the caliper, and grease the supports to avoid future noises. We screw the screws back in, replace the rubber covers, the safety spring, and reattach the wheel. We can lower the car.
