How to Replace the Spark Plugs in a Smart ForFour (454)

In this guide, learn how to replace the ignition spark plugs on a Smart ForFour 1.1 petrol. Start by opening the engine bay, removing the cover with the Smart logo by lifting it upwards. To create some space for your work, remove the top part of the air filter box, loosening the metal clamp that secures the intake pipe using a flat screwdriver or a size 7 socket. While working, it is advisable to cover the air filter box and the intake pipe opening with a cloth to prevent dirt, bolts, or other debris from entering the intake circuit, which could damage the engine. Now, unscrew the coil bolt with a Torx key or a size 8 ratchet and remove the coil. Finally, using a 16mm spark plug socket, pull out the spark plug (if you need to buy one, choose a socket that holds the spark plug inside, so when you pull the socket out of the hole, the spark plug will come out too). Repeat the operation for all 3 cylinders.
