Replacing the Sam Unit in the Smart 450

Model: Smart Smart 450 - Years 1998-2007

In this video, see how to replace the Sam unit in the first series of the Smart. When this fault occurs, the car shuts down and the display shows as in the video; with the three upper warning lights illuminated. Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal and then the positive; wait about ten minutes before proceeding. Now you can remove the Sam unit located at the bottom left, under the steering wheel; unclip the tabs and extract it. It’s advisable to photograph the connectors to remember their positions. If any connector is burnt, replace them; otherwise, you will need to open the box.
