The battery of the Smart Fortwo is located inside the cabin: to access the device, you will need to open the passenger door and lift the carpet under the glove compartment. By lifting this carpet, you can access the underlying panel, which must also be lifted to reach the battery below.

You can then remove it from its location by disconnecting the power cables and unscrewing the securing bolts. After replacing the battery, you can remount the panel and the carpet.
