To disable the passenger airbag on a Smart, you need to completely remove the dashboard from the passenger side to disconnect the connector inside. Open the passenger door to unscrew the side bolt of the dashboard; then open the glove compartment on the passenger side to loosen the screws inside and remove it completely, disconnecting the connector linked to the airbag control module.

This will disable the passenger airbag, allowing you to reassemble all the removed components.
