The procedure for replacing the starter motor of the Smart involves opening the boot of the car and lifting the protective panel at its base: beneath this panel, you will find the engine compartment, and on its left side, you can locate the starter motor.

This can be removed from its housing by disconnecting all connectors and loosening the relevant securing screws; this will allow you to insert the new starter motor, securing it in its housing and connecting it to the appropriate connectors.
