How to remove the steering wheel airbag on the Smart 451?

To remove the steering wheel airbag on the Smart 451, detach the plastic covers located at the bottom of the steering column: this will allow you to disconnect the underlying connectors and also unscrew the screws at the back of the steering wheel itself. This will enable you to completely remove the steering wheel from the column, so you can unscrew the screws that secure the rear plastic panel: by removing this panel, you can loosen the additional screws underneath that secure the airbag. Finally, disconnect the airbag from the centre of the steering wheel and connect and secure a new one.
