This video shows how to resolve the issue of a key stuck in the ignition of the Smart Fortwo that cannot move or be removed. The only movement it can make is to turn the engine on and off, but it won’t come out of the ignition.

Dismantle the steering column cover and identify a metal square with a blue coil beneath the ignition. By removing this, which is secured with three screws to the key block without disconnecting the electrical connection, you can unlock the key, allowing it to enter and exit while still starting the engine normally.
