How to open the trunk from the inside in the Toyota RAV4

If the tailgate on the Toyota RAV4 does not open from the outside or the button, it is possible to unlock it from the inside by accessing the emergency release behind a small cover on the tailgate trim. Secure the vehicle, turn off the ignition, and work carefully to avoid injuring yourself with tools or plastic parts. From the trunk area, orient yourself towards the inner panel of the tailgate. Locate the rectangular access panel on the trim: it is a small cover that allows you to reach the lock area. Using a thin tool (like a small screwdriver or a plastic pry tool), gently pry at the edge of the cover and remove it without tearing, so as not to break the tabs. Once the access is open, insert the tool into the opening and look for the internal lock mechanism. Operate by pushing the lever in the unlocking direction with controlled movements, without excessive force. When the mechanism releases the latch, the tailgate can open: support it and ensure it does not fall suddenly. After opening, reposition the cover and check the cause of the blockage (dead battery, actuator, microswitch, wiring, or lock).
