How to Replace the Brake Pads on the Toyota Rav 4

Model: Toyota Rav 4 Xa20, MK 2 - Years 2000-2006

To replace the front brake calipers, start by removing the wheel by unscrewing the bolts with a 21mm socket. Use a crowbar to detach the calipers from the brake disc, then unscrew the rear bolts on the caliper with a 14mm socket (spray with WD-40 if necessary). Lift the caliper using a hook, remove the old pads, and clean the pad seating with a wire brush and brake cleaner. Take the new pads, apply anti-squeal paste to the pad edges, and position them on the disc with the friction material facing it. Compress the brake caliper piston using a special tool, place the caliper back on the disc, and reattach the two bolts using a torque wrench set to 35Nm. Spray copper grease on the centre of the brake disc and brake cleaner on the outer part of the disc, then reposition the wheel and reattach the bolts with a 21mm socket (120Nm with a torque wrench).
