The auxiliary belt is responsible for driving the alternator that charges the battery, operating the power steering, the air conditioning compressor, and the water pump. Even if the latter were to break, the damage to the engine would be limited and less costly compared to the breaking of the timing belt. The auxiliary belt should be replaced every 5 years or upon reaching 16,000 miles. To carry out the replacement, you need to purchase: the belt, the tensioner, the auxiliary pulley, the alternator pulley, the water pump, and the gaskets. The tools required are: a standard tool kit and a torque wrench. Before performing the replacement, it is essential to follow the guidelines provided by the manufacturer, available in the vehicle's user and maintenance manual.
