Things Not to Do to Save Fuel with a Hybrid Car

Model: (Various brands) Various
Part: Checks and maintenance

Video tutorial

The first thing to do is start the car with the petrol engine: just a minute or two will do; this way, you won't immediately drain the electric battery. Then, by anticipating braking, you will recover kinetic energy that will recharge the battery.

There is also regenerative braking, which slows down the car simply by lifting your foot off the accelerator, using the electric motor, useful in city traffic. A common mistake is not to use Eco mode, designed specifically for conservative use, especially if you're not using the air conditioning.

The biggest mistake made is not anticipating traffic flow; in other words, not looking ahead to foresee situations that may arise. Related to this point is not taking advantage of coasting, which maximises the car's inertia, as if you were driving in neutral, with the petrol engine completely off.

How to Activate the Disabled TRC on the Toyota Yaris?

As the video clearly shows, disabling or activating the traction control (TRC or ESP) on the Toyota Yaris is very simple. By default, the traction system activates every time the vehicle is started. To disable it, simply press the button depicting a skidding car located in the centre of the vehicle where the controls are, such as the hazard lights and the radio, but near the handbrake. Once disabled, the TRC off light will illuminate on the dashboard. To reactivate it, just press the same button again.
