In high-performance engines, the manifolds and, in some cases, the turbochargers are covered with thermal wraps; this type of covering provides two major advantages: the first advantage is to keep the engine bay as cool as possible, as the exhaust manifold tends to get extremely hot, and without thermal protection, nearby components can overheat quickly and wear out rapidly. The second advantage is to prevent losses due to heat dissipation, as the engine uses the energy released from combustion to generate force. Therefore, with these thermal wraps isolating the exhaust gas flows, speed increases, and the force generated by combustion and increased heat is not lost.
