The Meaning of the Writings on Tyres

In this video, we will see what the writings on tyres mean. Let's start with the tyre sizes. For example: 195/60R15. 195 is the tread width; 60 is the distance between the tread and the rim, R15 is the rim diameter expressed in inches. Next, we find (in this case) an 88H; this indicates the load index (how much weight the tyre can carry) and the maximum speed it can achieve. Naturally, reference is made to tables, but usually regarding load, there is also clear information on the tyres. Now let's look at the information regarding the DOT marking. There are codes that tell us where the tyre was produced, but what interests us most is WHEN it was produced, which is the 4-digit number we find afterwards. For example: 4118 indicates the 41st week of 2018. If we find three digits, it means the tyre was produced before 2000, so it is over 20 years old.
