What to do if the alternator belt squeaks

If the alternator belt makes noise or squeaks, it almost certainly means that the bearings need lubrication. Here, we see it on a Fiat Ducato camper, but the procedure is more or less the same for any type of vehicle. Remove the plastic undertray by unscrewing the bolts that hold it in place. Locate the alternator, water pump, and engine. Clean the bearings by lubricating the belt - this keeps it supple. This operation should be done periodically to keep the service belt efficient, as it will always tend to collect debris, water, etc. Always spray silicone spray, never grease or WD40, as this will make things worse; the belt may slip and cause damage. Perform this with the engine running at idle, ensuring it is raised safely and always wear safety goggles.
