This video explains how your vehicle warns you in every possible way about the correct fuel type: it is written on the dial of some brands, and most write it on the inside of the fuel flap. Some brands, like Ford, make it impossible to insert a nozzle for one type of fuel in place of another (as our friendly YouTuber points out, diesel and petrol nozzles have different diameters). However, it is still possible for the most distracted to mix petrol with diesel. So, what should you do? The most sensible thing is to avoid starting the vehicle, even for a few seconds. The fuel tank is a safe place, and a professional can resolve the issue by draining and cleaning it. Of course, this is not a free job; it costs about £200, but it is always better than having to replace the engine or injectors!
