In this video, we see a ranking - obtained from an American magazine - of the average depreciation of vehicles based on their paint colour. It appears that yellow is the colour that retains its value the best, but we know that in the UK market, yellow is a very rare colour. Aside from a few models, which the presenter introduces and are rightly iconic in that specific colour, in our experience, the colour that depreciates the most is pastel black, as it shows all scratches and minor impact damage; generally, pastel colours are more delicate, where damage is more visible, even if easily remedied. Metallic white retains its value over time. Light metallic colours are easily resold. Unusual colours (yellow, orange, very bright blues, browns) sell worse, so when evaluating used cars, they have a lower valuation, similar to pastel black. A special case is green: you either love it or hate it, but it is not subject to particular evaluations. Two-tone cars are also not well regarded when it comes to trade-ins, especially if the colour combination is particularly bold.
