Why You Should Periodically Change Brake Fluid

This video explains why - and how - to change the brake fluid. We all know that brake fluid does not wear out unless there are leaks in the lines. So, one might wonder why it should be changed. The answer is simple: it is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water. When subjected to heavy use, the fluid temperature rises above 100°C, causing vapour to form, and when it cools, water forms. Since the fluid is incompressible, the brake pedal becomes 'spongy' and seems less responsive. Therefore, with the help of a friend pressing the brake pedal, you need to bleed the fluid from each wheel and add new fluid to the reservoir. This way, you can replace all the fluid in the circuit.
