How to open the locked fuel door of the Volkswagen Golf 7.

In the Volkswagen Golf 7, the fuel door is usually linked to the central locking system via a small latch. Before attempting to intervene from the trunk, it's advisable to check that the car is indeed unlocked: open and close the central locking, then press on the edge of the door in the opening area without forcing it. If the car has been in the cold or there is dirt around the door, cleaning the edge and applying a slight settling motion can help free the latch.

When the door remains stuck, you can access it from inside the trunk on the side of the door. Open the hatch and remove the right side trim (wheel arch area), moving the carpet/panel just enough to reach behind the fuel door's housing. Here you will find the latch mechanism: the goal is to retract the pin that prevents the door from opening. Manually release the mechanism by pulling/pushing the release part on the assembly, then while the pin retracts, gently press from the outside on the door and open it.

After opening, close and reopen it a couple of times to ensure that the latch operates correctly with the central locking. If the problem returns, it is advisable to check for any friction, ice, or deformation of the door and consider replacing the actuator/latch, as a worn motor or a pin that moves poorly can cause the door to get stuck again.
