How to replace the bonnet stay? Follow these steps to replace the bonnet stay on a Volkswagen Golf 5. Lift the bonnet and secure it, then use a screwdriver to detach the metal clips that hold the worn stay at both ends (or unscrew the securing bolts). Install the new part on the vehicle, securing the stay with the metal clips/bolts. Repeat the same process for the removal/installation of the twin stay. Finally, test the gas stay installed previously (lift and lower it).
