How to Replace the Bonnet Gas Strut on a Volkswagen Golf 5

To replace the gas strut on a Volkswagen Golf 5, start by opening the bonnet and prop it up with a stick as the strut no longer holds it. Using a small flathead screwdriver, insert it into the gap at the top behind the strut's attachment to lever out the clip that holds it at the top. Repeat the same operation for the lower clip of the strut, then pull the strut out from the top and bottom. Now take the new strut, remove it from the packaging, and extract the clips (without removing them completely if possible). Insert it in place of the old one, first from the bottom and then from the top, clip it in, and secure the clips at both the top and bottom. Finally, remove the stick and check if the bonnet stays open.
