How to Remove the Fuel Filler Flap on a Volkswagen Golf IV

To remove the fuel filler flap on a Volkswagen Golf IV, the procedure is very simple and takes only a few seconds. There is no need to remove the internal boot lining or touch the fuel tank. All you need to do is open the flap as if refuelling. Once opened, look inside the upper or side corner of the compartment: you will find a small Torx screw, specifically a T20, which you will unscrew. Be careful not to lose it, as it is the only element holding the mechanism in place. Once the screw is removed, the flap will detach easily by pulling it outward. There are no hidden screws or springs to release.
