If you want to replace the gear gaiter on a Golf, you need to remove the knob. Here's how to do it. Use a plastic lever to disconnect the leather gaiter frame, then remove the metal clip with pliers. Take the gear knob in your hands and rotate it left and right until it comes off the stick. For reassembly, take the new knob and slide it onto the stick in the centre console, secure the metal clip with pliers, and slide the leather gaiter down the stick. Attach the plastic frame to the centre console (ensure the plastics are secured above the centre console). Check that the piece is correctly fitted.
