Replacing the timing belt on a Volkswagen Passat, let's see how to disassemble it. Open the bonnet and lift it, securing it with the prop rod. Remove the front splash guard (front right side), disconnect the power wiring with pliers, and unscrew the plastic soundproofing panel with a screwdriver. Lift the car with a jack. Loosen the tensioner pulley and slide the belt off its seat. Using a socket wrench, unscrew the tensioner pulley bolt and remove the water pump. Fit the new water pump, tensioner, and belt. Refit the splash guard under the wing.
