How to Install, Repair or Replace a Rear Light

If you have broken or cracked the rear light of a Volkswagen Passat, want to replace it, or have burnt bulbs, here is a guide to do it yourself. After opening the boot, lift the side trim flap to access the bulbs, which can be replaced if burnt out. If you want to remove the lens of the light, you will need to remove the three bolts securing it with an 8 mm spanner. Now simply pull the lens out by hand. The same operation in reverse will be done to insert the new one. Remember to secure the bolts after inserting the plate with the bulbs and lift the trim flap back into place. On the other side (the left), access to the rear light is through the side panel, which opens via two butterfly knobs.
