Replacement of the Cooling Fan Relay on Volkswagen Golf

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

Lift the bonnet and insert the support rod. Disconnect the battery terminals and remove the plastic bracket above it. Unscrew and remove the plastic cover located behind the headlamp on the battery side. This is secured to the base by two bolts that need to be unscrewed, as shown in the video. Remove the battery and unscrew the bolts located underneath it, which are now accessible, using a 10 mm socket. Remove the cover secured by these bolts, and at this point, you can access the two bolts that secure the control unit for the fan and the attached relay.
