How to remove the gear knob of a Golf? Here’s how to remove the gear knob and gaiter. Use a plastic lever to detach the leather gaiter frame, then release the gear knob retaining clip. Hold the gear knob and rotate it left and right until it comes off the gear stick (remove the gaiter). Take the new gear knob and slide it onto the stick in the centre console, securing it onto the stick along with the new leather gaiter. Once the gear knob is secured, cover the stick with the leather cover and lock the frame in place.
