DIY Window Regulator Replacement

The window regulator is a great ally, especially on mild days, serving as a valid alternative to air conditioning. A faulty regulator can be a frustrating problem, particularly if it gets stuck in the down position. This procedure is delicate but can be done without the help of an auto electrician. Start by turning off the interior light by pushing the latch in; once done, remove the handle (using a couple of plastic tools and then your hands) and the bulb cover. Inside the handle, there are two cross-head screws to remove and three at the bottom of the door: note that there should also be another at the top. If not, it can be easily found. Now, begin removing the clips; if wooden or plastic supports were used to assist with the removal of the plastic, take them out. You can now proceed with the removal of the plastic itself, being careful; disconnect the window switch and remove the cable from the door handle. Next, take off the two round plastic covers (which give access to the terminals holding the glass mechanism) and remove the 10mm bolts securing the panel; once done, calmly disconnect all the electrical connectors. There are three screws holding the motor; remove the plug that goes to the opening mechanism and take off the grey panel. In this case, the plastic guides for the glass are damaged: it's better to spend a bit more to ensure durability. The plastic parts are attached to these metal clips from the glass. Now, fit the new panel by reversing the previous procedure; align the screw holes with the new panel and reassemble everything. Now, insert the glass into the clips and mount the motor by reconnecting the respective wiring; tighten the clip bolts carefully to avoid damaging the glass. Check its proper functioning and reassemble the door and handle cover. Easier said than done!
