How to Replace the Steering Wheel on a VW Golf MK7

Follow these steps to replace the steering wheel on the Golf MK7. Start the car and rotate the steering wheel 90° from the straight position. Turn off the engine and lower the steering wheel using the adjustment lever located on the left side of the steering column. Use your phone's front camera as a mirror and a small flat screwdriver to release the airbag's retaining tab, repeating the process by rotating the steering wheel in the opposite direction. Before removing the airbag, disconnect the positive terminal of the battery to avoid any errors that may be stored in the ECU. Next, disconnect the airbag connector inside the steering wheel and set it aside, ensuring to place it in a safe location due to its fragility. Carefully use a plastic wedge to remove the trim surrounding the radio controls and disconnect the relevant connectors. Using a ratchet and the correct Torx adapter, unscrew the central nut holding the steering wheel. Carefully extract the steering wheel from the splines, ensuring it does not rotate (to avoid alignment issues); alignment points are usually indicated, similar to timing belts. At this point, insert the new steering wheel, securing it to the hub with the bolt, and reverse the disassembly procedure by reinstalling the control trim and the airbag. Finally, reconnect the battery and check that everything functions correctly once the car is started.
