How to Replace the Timing Belt on a Volkswagen Polo

If you need to replace the timing belt on this model, the following description provides general guidance as this is a rather complex task that should be performed by qualified personnel. First, remove the right front wheel and the corresponding inner wheel arch cover. Loosen the tensioner for the auxiliary belt and then remove it. Unscrew the mounting bolts for the engine mount and remove the crankshaft pulley. Next, take off the lower timing belt cover and the central cover as well. Then, remove the upper timing belt protection cover. Position locks to secure the crankshaft and camshaft to prevent losing engine timing. At this point, you can loosen the tensioner and remove the belt.
