Adding AdBlue Additive to TDI Clean Diesel System

In vehicles equipped with the TDI clean diesel system, a urea-based solution (AdBlue®) is injected into the exhaust system, upstream of a special catalyst, which allows for a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions. AdBlue is contained in a dedicated tank located in the boot beneath the spare wheel well. Generally, this tank is filled during servicing, as under normal driving conditions, the AdBlue supply is sufficient to cover the mileage between services: for this reason, it is absolutely necessary to adhere to maintenance schedules. The consumption of AdBlue is around 0.5-1% of diesel fuel consumption. The AdBlue tank holds approximately 23 litres. If the AdBlue consumption proves to be higher due to a particular driving style, you must top it up independently, even between services. Open the rear bonnet, lift the support panel, remove the spare wheel, and take off the AdBlue tank cap; insert the appropriate bottle with a dispenser and screw it in; press to dispense the additive and check the tank level using the diagnostic equipment.
