How to Replace the Rear Brake Pads on the Volkswagen Passat B8

This guide shows how to replace the rear brake pads on the Volkswagen Passat B8 without using the VCDS diagnostic software. The first step is to safely lift the vehicle and remove the rear wheels. Release the electronic handbrake before proceeding with the disassembly. Using a lever, remove the retaining spring from the brake caliper, and from the back of the caliper, remove the protective caps from the nuts and unscrew them with an HW7 spanner. Extract the brake caliper and move it aside; remove the worn brake pads. Unscrew the two mounting bolts of the electronic brake motor and, using a puller, push the caliper piston to its maximum open position. If necessary, also replace the brake disc by acting on the mounting bolts. Clean the work area and refit the brake pads onto the support. Refit the brake caliper and secure everything in position.
