How to Change Oil and Oil Filter on Alfa Romeo Giulietta

Changing the oil filter on an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, as with all other cars, should always be done in conjunction with an oil change to avoid contaminating the new filter with impurities from the used oil. First, drain the used oil through the drain plug located under the oil sump, which will be accessible by lifting the car on a suitable ramp or on axle stands. Additionally, some models have a plastic undertray that must be removed using the screws along its perimeter. Before unscrewing the drain plug, place a suitable container underneath to collect the used oil that will come out during disassembly. After removing the plug and waiting for the oil to drain, you can replace the plug and proceed to replace the filter, which is located under the air intake pipe on the left side of the turbo. To remove it, unscrew the cap with a suitable socket wrench; removing this may cause further oil spillage, so it is advisable to protect the floor with a container and the adjacent parts with rags to avoid mess. Once the cap is removed, you will have access to the oil filter located inside it, so simply remove the old filter and insert the new one. Along the thread of the cap, you will also see an O-ring, which should be replaced with the new one usually provided with the filter, and it is recommended to moisten it with a bit of oil to facilitate insertion. Once these operations are completed, reassemble everything and then add the new oil through the filling cap located on top of the rocker cover. This procedure should be done gradually, checking the optimal level using the dipstick, and then perform a final top-up after the first start-up if necessary. The procedure described above refers to the 1.4 turbo petrol model; for the diesel models, the operation will be more or less similar, except that the oil filter will be located above the passenger side driveshaft, and you will need to work from underneath the car or more simply by removing the front wheel.
