Guide to Bearing Replacement and Brake Disc Removal

Model: Alfa Romeo 156 MK 1 - Years 1997-2007

Let’s go through the steps to remove and install a new bearing. Lift the car with a jack on the relevant side, remove the wheel, and using two spanners, start to remove the brake caliper.
Disconnect the brake wear sensor cable from its anchor point, and once free, open the caliper by flipping the lower part upwards. At this point, you can remove the disc. Then, using a 32mm spanner, undo the nut that holds the bearing in place; once removed, you can take it out.
Now clean the seat with a wire brush, then place the new bearing in, pushing it fully to ensure it is seated correctly. Refit the washer and re-tighten the nut.
Reattach the disc, close the brake caliper using a hammer, taking care not to damage it, then re-tighten the bolt that holds it in place and finish refitting the disc. Finally, mount the wheel and the job is complete.
