If the interior lights stay on when the doors are closed or if one of the locks does not engage, then the door lock is damaged: it is a fairly complex mechanism that includes not only the actuator motor but also a series of linkages and springs, along with micro switches that signal the opening and closing of the lock. You could attempt to repair it, but a new aftermarket lock costs about $40, so it is recommended to replace it. This operation obviously requires removing the door panel (the mounting screws are located under the upper trim and behind the central handle cover).
