Timing Belt Replacement

Model: Audi A6 MK 2, C5 - Years 1997-2004
Part: Timing belt

Only perform this maintenance if you have good mechanical knowledge and the proper tools. Replacing the timing belt first requires removing the entire front of the vehicle: bumper, grille, and radiators. Once you have removed the entire front, including the timing belt covers, sketch the routing of the belt over the various pulleys, accurately mark the timing references, and then proceed to remove the tensioner to take off the old belt. Given the complexity of the disassembly, it is recommended to also replace the water pump even if there are no leaks, as well as the tensioner and bearings. Finally, install the new belt, positioning it accurately and tensioning it by adjusting the tensioner. Replace the auxiliary belt as well, and once reassembly is complete, fill the cooling system with antifreeze.
