Replacing Power Steering Fluid and Filter

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

The materials needed for this job include a new filter, special fluid, some tools, and a syringe. Remove the air box and its associated hoses. To prevent fluid from spilling into the alternator, place a pan and rags under the filter. Open the oil reservoir cap and use the syringe to draw out the fluid, pouring it into the pan. Once all the fluid is removed, close the reservoir and remove the filter by unscrewing the bolts at the base, then remove the two hose clamps to disconnect the two hoses attached to it. Position the pan to catch any fluid from the filter and clean up any oil residue. Remove the support bracket from the old filter and attach it to the new one, which should be placed in its location after reconnecting the hoses. Reinstall the air box and fill the reservoir with a small amount of new fluid. Start the engine and continue to draw out the old fluid from the reservoir until it is empty. Top off the reservoir with new fluid.
